Shag rugs are a great investment for a home or business, they add a lot of beauty to the area that they are placed, the problem that people think exists is that they are hard to clean, that’s not true and with a few steps you will be able to clean your shag rug very easily.
First thing that someone should do is to set the vacuum on the highest pile setting, the one that sets the brushes the furthest from the floor(if your vacuum is setup differently) if your vacuum does not come with different settings, try to get closest to this setting as possible. Then start to vacuum away from the pile, shag works best with short, back and forth motions to pull the pile up as much as possible and avoid the vacuum getting stuck and seems like it is burning up, then work your way with the vacuum left to right across the floor and go back over it in the perpendicular direction, now disconnect the vacuum hose and use the open tube to suck up dirt, place the hose’s nozzle straight down into the carpet, methodically covering the entire area. This is a long process but you will be amazed at how much dirt, grime and other disgusting stuff you are able to extract from the shag when you sit down and take your time with it. If your shag rug does not have a lot of traffic going over it, then doing this process a couple times a year should get the job done.
A little trick that has worked successfully is if you get blood on the rug, warm up a glass of milk and pour some into a wash cloth, then rub the cloth back on forth on the spotted area for five minutes, then take a towel and dry it up, check on the rug in about an hour and the blood should be gone from the shag rug, if not you should repeat the process one more time and that should do the trick. When you see that the spot is gone, vacuum over the area a few times to get the pile back to normal.
A shag rug is a great thing to have and as you can see it is very easy to clean when you follow a few simple steps. Good Luck!
